IN THE KNEES

Common throughout the US and Southern Canada, this Great Blue Heron is uncommonly majestic against a fall foliage background of cypress knees. Typically foraging in grassy and shallow-water areas of both fresh and salt water, Great Blues are indiscriminate eaters, striking at fish, snakes, frogs, and even small rodents and other birds.
